mixed media (mĭkst’mē’dē-ə) adj… works of art made with two or more media

Mixed Media 123 is all about the process. Sonya Myers details some of her projects, including collage and photomontage using diverse collected imagery, found objects, her own photography, paintings, and scanned objects.
Words play a strong role in her work, reflecting a lifelong fascination with their origins, meaning, use, and misuse.

All Washed Up at left, is a 32-inch discarded mannequin covered with shells and objects collected on the beach one summer. The transition of shells into trash represents people’s casual disregard for our environment, as well as our easy abandonment of old for new.
With the collection of lost and discarded eyewear tucked into the recess in the figure’s back, the work suggests “If we had not lost our glasses, perhaps we could more clearly see the consequences of our actions.”
